You may remember us from this past summer when we rocked a house concert with visiting artist Oshwa, local legend So Much Light, and comedy dream Edgar Granados. Well make sure you delete some videos of grandma eating holiday cookies from your phone, because you’re going to want plenty of video space to catch the live magic of another season of Speak Out! Feature shows. We are kicking off 2018 with a lineup you won’t want to miss and a few hidden twists along the way!
In addition to your three featured artists we will invite everyone who wants a shot at the stage to place their name in a hat and between each main act, we’ll draw a mystery performer who gets 5 minutes at the mic to blow us all away. Who knows, if you rock it, maybe you’ll be our next Speak Out Feature!
One more twist—Speak Out! Sac is all about bringing artists together to experiment and collaborate co-creatively. What better way to collaborate with another artist than figuring it out live on stage? That’s right, at the top of the show we will draw two random names from the Open-Mic hat and those two will be challenged to close the show by combining their art with a collaborative act. Maybe a comedian will have to deliver their punch lines over the smooth jazz of a piano accompanist. Maybe two songwriters mash their piece together. Maybe a poet delivers metric stanzas in between verses of a punk song. We won’t know until close of show what magic is waiting to happen!
Now without further delay, please give a virtual round of applause for our current band of Speak Out! Sac Pop-Up Features: SHAHERA HYATT, JORDAN MOORE, AND JEANETTE SEM.
COMEDIAN: Shahera Hyatt. You may have seen her around town managing to rock a fanny pack while making you laugh so hard you spit your PBR all over your date. Well, give bae a bib and get ready for a set that you don’t even need a drink to enjoy! Hyatt co-produces The Latest Show, Sacramento’s own nighttime talk show, and the @movingvanshow, a roving monthly pop-up comedy show as well as regular featuring at all the top comedy venues around town. Don’t miss the swoonworthy Shahera Hyatt as she makes you laugh, cry, and pee all at the same time from the comfort of your very own seat in Shine Café.
POET: Jeanette Sem. Champion of the local Sac Poetry Slam at Luna’s, Semm will bring a tear to your eye and make you want to raise your fist in resistance all while falling in love with the rhythm of her voice. Jeanette has featured at the Crocker Art Mix as well as regularly blowing us away at Speak Out! Sac open mics. You will learn more from the words of Jeanette Semm than any sociology textbook on the shelf, come see for your self.
MUSICIAN: Jordan Moore. Devilishly handsome and irreverently talented, Jordan Moore has turned the Sacramento music scene on its head in the last two years. Moore has released an EP and several singles available on iTunes for purchase. When not busy creating his own musical revolution, Moore plays drums, piano, and sings for Hobo Johnson and the Love Makers. You may have caught Jordan frequenting the stage at Harlow’s and other local venues or winning over the hearts of Sacramento at Concerts in the Park last summer. If you haven’t seen him, you’ll want to crawl out from under your rock and make sure you do.
