Since apparently we live in a world where tweets have to be viewed as potential policy changes, Speak Out! Sacramento is holding an OPEN MIC this Wednesday at Shine in support of our trans community, and as a reminder that everyone deserves to be treated with respect, especially those who are literally enrolling, by choice, to serve and protect our country.

Where? Shine Sacramento // 1400 E Street
When? Sign-ups at 7:30PM // Show at 8PM

You can show up for the cause in two key ways:
1) By performing— be it music, spoken word, story-telling, comedy, etc, come lend your talent to our open mic fundraiser.
2) By donating that sweet sweet green (aka $$$)— this week we partner with the Gender Health Center, a Sacramento organization that specializes in counseling and medical services for the LGBTQQI community. What better way to stand with the trans community, than to put our money where our hashtag facebook statuses are?

Considering the uptick in bigotry that continues to flood our newsfeeds on a daily basis, we would like to give a friendly reminder to everyone who joins us this Wednesday to be hyper-respectful to your fellow audience members and performers. Our motto is "Open Minds, Open Mics." Neither can truly be accomplished without the other. Please take this into account as you prepare your piece, and as you conduct yourself at this and all of our events. This month has been filled with too much bad news— let's actively work to brighten each other's week through art, empathy, and community. (That being said, intelligent and thoughtful commentary on our political landscape is ALWAYS welcome on the SOS stage, and always always will be.)
